In March 2005, a first federation agreement was signed by the GIP International Office (GIP-Hilversum, The Netherlands), GIP-Sofia (Bulgaria), GIP-Tbilisi (Georgia) and GIP-Vilnius (Lithuania), regulating the interaction between these organizations. A GIP country office in Tajikistan, established later, also became a member of the GIP network. Since, GIP/Hamlet-UK has joined the federation, and a US branch of GIP is under development.
In December 2010, the Federation was officially registered as a separate legal entity at the Chamber of Commerce in Amsterdam, and a year later the Federation GIP was officially separated from GIP-Hilversum. As a result, GIP-Hilversum is now equal to the other FGIP member organizations, and the Federation will now be developed as a separate self-sustainable entity servicing its member organizations.
Each member of the Federation is guided by its own regional board. For a list of these board members, see Boards & Staff
